The Hormonal Health Plan
Empowered Strong Happy
With 20 years of experience in healthcare, including over 14 years as a highly specialised Allied Health Professional (AHP) within the NHS, I bring a wealth of knowledge to my practice. However, my journey took a pivotal turn in 2020 when, at 40 years old, I experienced a breakdown due to an early and severe onset of perimenopause—something I had no prior understanding of. During this challenging time, I felt lost, broken, and even suicidal, and I struggled to comprehend what was happening to me.
Unfortunately, I was let down by the medical system, including my GP and the various health professionals I encountered while seeking a diagnosis. The only treatment option presented to me was Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), which exacerbated my symptoms. My hormone levels were assessed, but only FSH was tested—an indicator that rises late in the menopausal transition. This frustrating journey fuelled my determination to ensure that no other woman would have to endure the same disorientation and despair that I did.

Armed with my qualifications as a personal trainer and a Level 4 coach, I sought to deepen my understanding of HRT and menopause as an AHP. However, the advanced training I received did not resonate with the symptoms I observed in myself or the hundreds of women I coached. This drove me to explore alternative approaches, leading me to functional nutrition and health.
This model emphasises hormone balance as part of a holistic view, addressing the root causes of imbalances such as stress, blood sugar levels, inflammation, nutrition, and lifestyle factors, as well as their impacts on thyroid function, digestion, autoimmune responses, ovulation, and the menstrual cycle.
Since then, I have committed myself to ongoing education in this field, completing multiple diplomas in nutrition for behavioural change, health, and functional nutritional therapy. I have also undertaken an advanced postgraduate clinical practitioner course in functional and hormonal health, and I recently enrolled in an advanced practitioner certification with the Institute of Menstrual Health. Additionally, I hold various other qualifications, including a BSc (Hons) and a BA (Hons), along with certifications in solution-focused brief therapy, emotional coaching, anxiety management, and pre-and postnatal coaching.
